The Project:
Architects Glynis Berry and Hideaki Ariizumi of studio a/b architects contacted Excav in the summer of 2006.
They had purchased a run-down property on West Main St. Riverhead, NY and were looking to revitalize it to build their office as well as an art gallery.
The project represented a unique opportunity not only because of the features of the site but because the chance it offered to help revitalize the river-front of Riverhead, which has a rich history but is in need of beautification.
Involved would be connection to the municipal sewer as well as extensive work on the grounds.
The Work:
Work started with the Municipal sewer connection and continued with re-grading, taking precautions that the existing “Monuments” (two huge Oak Trees) were not disturbed by the site operations, Construction of a retaining wall using materials found on site, sculpting drainage swales to contain storm-water and allow passive recharge due to high groundwater table, parking area construction, topsoil and seeding.
This project is truly a model for private re-vitalization of an environmentally sensitive area, please take the time to review the site photo’s, and if you are in the area - the door is nearly always open, and the exhibits are wonderful! Visit their website at www.ArtSitesGallery.com.

Testimonial:
"I just wanted to thank you for the great job you did with our site in Riverhead. You treated the project with respect and extended yourself to ensure all went well. I liked the extra care you took with our sweeping path, ensuring the look was what we wanted. Also, when we hit a problem with subsurface conditions, you were thoughtful about the solution and interim needs. We thank you for your commitment to the quality of the work and the gentlemanly manner in which it was conducted, by both you and your crew."
